Bringing Your Critical Systems Together
Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) is designed to converge what has been two separate networks, storage and data, into a single architecture on the edge of the network.
The InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) are involved in developing standards for FCoE. However, many equipment manufacturers are not waiting for the standards to be completed, but are releasing pre-standard implementations.
Beyond the details of connectivity (such as addressing, encapsulation, discovery and forwarding), is the challenge to achieve the performance and reliability of storage networks in the FCoE environment. Reliable transport, flow control and congestion management are required to meet the challenge.
